A man and his cockroach
There once was a man named Tim. Tim was a loner and had no friends. He stayed in a rickety old cottage all by himself. He had no wife because no woman would marry him. Nothing in the world really meant much to him. However, there was one thing that meant something to Tim, his pet cockroach. Tim named the cockroach Sue because he found her near a sewer while he was walking to town one rainy day. Sue was the most important thing in Tim's life. He spent his long lonely days making clothes and food for Sue. Sue was his princess. Tim thought since Sue was a princess, she should learn to dance. Tap dancing was Tim's secret special talent. Day and night Tim worked so hard to teach that cockroach to tap dance. At first it was quite difficult because Sue did not want to cooperate. Finally after she realized Tim as not going to give up, Sue gave in and decided to learn to tap dance. Once she started to learn, Tim knew she was going to be a star. Tim worked very hard with Sue to perfect her dance. One day while walking to town to get more fabric for Sue's clothes, Tim saw a poster that advertised a dancing contest. He knew his Sue could win it. Tim got home and told Sue about the contest. At first Sue was hesitant, but she knew it would make Tim happy so she agreed to enter the dance contest. After filling out the paper work, Tim brought it into town to the man in charge of the contest, Mr. Dancinshoes. Mr.Dancinshoes looked at Tim's paper and began to ask questions. After the fact that Sue was a cockroach, Mr.Dancinshoes could not stop laughing. He wanted to know if Tim was actually serious. Of course Tim was serious. Mr.Dancinshoes allowed Sue to be in the contest because he just wanted to see a dancing cockroach. Sue performed in the contest and tap danced her little heart out. She would have won too if it was not for one of the other tap dancers stepping on her.
