Halloween has always been a favorite holiday of mine. As a child I loved to dress up in costumes and go trick-or--treating. My mom would always take me while my dad had to stay at home and pass out candy. My first stop in route was always my own house. I would pretend I did not live there, knock on the door, and get candy from my dad, whom also pretended he did not know me. Then my mom would take me around to houses so I could get candy. Then after getting all the candy I could, my mom would bring me back home. At the house my parents would "inspect" my candy to make sure there was no bad stuff in it. Now looking back on it I think they were looking for more than bad stuff in my candy. I think they were scoping out to see what they wanted out of my candy bag.
The candy is not my favorite part of Halloween. My absolute favorite part of Halloween is dressing up in costumes. As a child I was some really random characters. I dressed up as barbie and the pink power ranger just to name a couple. Recently as I got older, I could not dress up and go trick-or-treating, but I could dress up and work trick-or-treat street at my high school. One year I was mama from Mama's Family and last year I was a construction worker named Earl. I love getting creative with my costumes. Especially now that I am older. I have not bought a costume since I was about 10, which was the last time I went trick-or-treating. From then I would just find things around the house that I thought would make a good costume and that is what I wore. For example my construction worker costume was an old pair of jeans, a friend of mine's work shirt, my daddy's tool belt, and my daddy's hat. Costumes to me are a way to show creativity and that is why I like them so much
One part of Halloween I did not care for too much as a child was getting scared. I remember going to some houses and people popping up from out of no where with chainsaws and stuff and me getting the daylights scared out of me. One year my mom and her friend took a group of us kids to this house in town. At this house was this "grave" and out of this grave pops out this guy who chases us with a "chainsaw." I took off running and ended up at the post office. The post office was not too far from the house we were at, but it still took my mom a minute to find me. After that we never went back to that house again. Now as I am older, I do not get scared as easily as I used to. The scary part of Halloween does not get to me anymore.
I have always loved Halloween. From childhood to now, it has always been a big part of year for me. Costumes to candy everything is so much fun.
